Limited first edition, number 182 of only 575 copies, with calligraphic title page and two lithographic plates by Cocteau. Contains “Le Fantome de Marseille,” first published in the Nouvelle Revue Francaise in 1933 and later revised in honor of Edith Piaf, and “Le Numero Barbette,” Cocteau’s tribute to a contemporary female impersonator who stirred audiences by “the supernatural sex of beauty” (Steegmuller, 367)—also first published in the Nouvelle Revue Francaise, in 1926.
